The Hague Greeters
Published: 17 June 2011 Modified: 03 July 2012
Are you planning to visit The Hague? You can experience a warm welcome from a Hague Greeter. Let someone who holds the city dear guide you around all the treasures The Hague has to offer and experience The Hague just as a resident of the city would.
The Hague Greeters are volunteers who will share their love for the city with you in an enthusiastic and welcoming way. A Greeter will walk with you through the city for a couple of hours and allow you to see The Hague through the eyes of a local. The service is for families, friends or people travelling solo and will truly enrich your visit to the international city of peace and justice.
Meet some of the Greeters
Each Greet is like I am exploring my own city again. The Hague has so many contrasts. Old and new, unexpected surprises, great architecture. And what would be behind that door? I am eager to show you!
Which year did they build the Mauritshuis? I don't know. For the history of the Middle Ages I advise you to read about it yourself. But if you want to explore the city with somebody who lives in ‘downtown The Hague', if you want to see some hidden places and get some great views and if you want to know where you can buy the best sandwiches, book a Hague Greeter!
You know what’s so special about Greeters? They are ordinary people, volunteers who show you around the city. And do you know why? Because they want to put a smile on your face next time you speak about The Hague. You should try it!
Annemarie de Bont:
I am proud of The Hague and I love to show visitors my city. Parliament, some romantic spots, great places for coffee or one of our delicious ‘Haagse kakkers’, or even a mosque. Being a Greeter I meet people from South Africa, Macedonia, Mexico and other countries. It's just great! Book a Greeter.
Absolutely free of charge
It is recommended that you book a Hague Greeter two weeks in advance. Visitors will then be matched with a Greeter who speaks the requested language and possibly shares the same interests. The Hague Greeters will try to select somebody who can map out a route based on your individual preferences.

Become a Hague Greeter
The Hague Greeters welcome everybody who is proud of the city, has an enthusiastic and kind personality and speaks at least one foreign language. Naturally, as a host or hostess of The Hague we expect you to look representative. Please do the Greeter test to find out if you are the Greeter they are looking for!
