Water refilling station in Spuimarkt

A Join the Pipe drinking water filling station was unveiled in The Hague's Spuimarkt shopping centre.
The building's owner Syntrus Achmea Vastgoed is supporting the jointhepipe.org foundation, which is working to redistribute drinking water in a fairer way in the world. By selling water filling stations and specially-designed bottles, the foundation finances water and sanitation projects in developing countries.
The water refilling station in the Spuimarkt shopping centre is a public drinking water tap in the city which provides easy access to clean, free tap water.
Water filling stations help people in not having to buy new plastic water bottles, saving money and cutting down on waste. Tap water is 500 times cheaper and 1,300 times better for the environment than packaged water, given the packaging and transportation costs.
A number of political parties in The Hague would like the municipality and Dunea to provide information on where all the public water filling stations are located. They would also like to see more stations placed in highly trafficked areas in the city.
