Dance City The Hague will become the international centre of dance at the Holland Dance Festival from 26 January to 26 February.
Inspiration comes from the Latin word inspirare, which also means ‘to inhale’. For Holland Dance Festival this is an appropriate image. Because dance for us is the heartbeat of life. Dance begins with inspiration, and dance provides inspiration. During the Holland Dance Festival 2012 the audience gets to taste this during the festival programme entitled ‘Source of Inspiration’.
The Holland Dance Festival is the largest biennial dance festival in the Netherlands with more than 50 performances by over 30 dance companies (including the Nederlands Dans Theater) and artists from the Netherlands and abroad. There will also be a large variety of dance workshops.
For four weeks, the Holland Dance Festival will host dance companies and artists from all over the world: from familiar faces to new initiatives, from undiscovered gems to the international top, new productions and established top performances, young talents and big-name artists.
The festival will showcase works by famous choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Bill T. Jones, Mats Ek, William Forsythe and Meryl Tankard. The festival exudes an atmosphere of international allure with the star and dance icon Sylvie Guillem. New surprises in the area of dance will be brought to the stage by the phenomenal performers from the STREB Extreme Action Company and the 'fashionable' duo Jacoby & Pronk show off their work.
The Holland Dance Festival offers a varied line-up to a wide audience, promoting high-quality dance as a source of inspiration.
Performances will take place at the Lucent Danstheater, Korzo Theater, Theater aan het Spui and in the Atrium of The Hague City Hall.
