Free books on the beach

The Hague Public Library will open up a temporary branch library in the Atlantic Hotel on the boulevard of Kijkduin. Part of the collection can be found in the hotel bar and another part is outside on the terrace.
Beach library in Kijkduin
The beach libraries offer beach guests an extensive collection of books for easy reading: comic books and other children's books, short stories, informational books about the beach and sea, bestsellers and romance novels. All the materials are available in Dutch, English and German (as a service for the many German tourists who visit The Hague in the summer).
No pass needed
Borrowing a book is simple as a library pass isn’t needed. Visitors can borrow reading material for free from the beach library on an honour system, simply by providing their name and address. The materials need to be returned at the end of the day.
Opening hours
The beach library is open every day throughout the summer from 7.00 to 23.00 hrs.
Beach library initiative
The first free beach libraries were opened in 2005 as an initiative of the Province of South Holland. This year there will be only five beach libraries on the beaches of North and South Holland in IJmuiden, Noordwijk, Katwijk, Wassenaar and Kijkduin.
