Do you think you are paying an unfairly high rent? The Hague’s Fair Rent Team (Huurteam) will investigate and act on complaints, inquiries and other communications regarding alleged excessive rental charges.
If you think you are paying too much rent for your home, you can request the Fair Rent Team’s free advice and assistance. If your rental property isn’t properly maintained, you can also call on the Fair Rent Team’s help.
Any tenant living in The Hague may contact the Fair Rent Team and request an inspection. The size of the rooms, the condition of the property and the facilities and appliances determine the appropriate rental price. The outcome of the inspection is sent to the tenant within a week. It can never lead to a rental increase for the current occupant.
The Fair Rent Team also lends assistance to tenants in procedures involving the Huurcommissie (Fair Rent Commission). When the commission finds that the landlord is overcharging his tenants, the commission may decide to lower the rent or to temporarily suspend rent payments until the housing is fixed up.
