Beach clubs open all year in Scheveningen

The Municipality of The Hague is giving businesses on the beach the opportunity to remain open throughout the year. The Municipal Executive will start by offering these special measures to three beach clubs, three surf schools and one water sport club on Scheveningen beach.
The beach where the beach restaurants may remain open all year long is located near the harbour and starting in 2013 will border on the new boulevard, presently under construction. The location was chosen carefully. The water sport activities and the restaurants are expected to complement each other well and attract more visitors to Scheveningen in the winter.
Preferred area
Accessibility also played a role in the choice of preferred area. There is sufficient parking in the area. It is also located farther away from a residential area and other restaurants and cafes. It was also important that this part of the beach is located at the beginning of the boulevard and not directly by a delicate dune area. The Delfland Water Board and the Province of Zuid-Holland were also involved in this decision-making process.
Public comments
The plan is now a proposal for The Hague Municipal Council. Starting in mid- August the public will have six weeks to submit their comments (inspraak) on the plan.
